The former One Direction member, 31, died Wednesday at age 31. He fell from the balcony in his room on the third floor at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina, according to TMZ.

The outlet reported that Payne “had been acting erratic” in the hotel lobby before he died.

The singer reportedly smashed his laptop in the lobby and had to be carried to his room.

It’s unclear if Payne’s death was intentional or accidental.
